All members of the Harvard community – students, faculty, staff, researchers, and visitors alike – must feel safe and supported in the campus environment to do their best work and contribute to the teaching, research, and learning mission of the University.

The Reimagining Campus Community Safety initiative is both an opportunity and a shared responsibility for the community to engage in a process of defining and reimagining campus safety at Harvard—evaluating the current state, discovering unmet needs, and harnessing opportunities for optimum alignment and impact on overall community safety and well-being.

This initiative was born out of an external review conducted in 2020 of the Harvard University Police Department (HUPD) and the campus safety environment with the aim of ultimately better understanding the needs, concerns, and experiences of the University’s community members with regard to their overall safety and well-being.
